Montgomery, AL (05/30/2024) – The Alabama Department of Archives and History (ADAH) will offer its annual half-day summer genealogy workshops on June 22 and July 27. Workshops will be held from 9:00am to 12:00pm CT. The cost to attend each workshop is $30 for the public and $20 for students and Friends of the Alabama Archives members. Registration fee includes a boxed lunch. Each workshop will be held in person at the Archives in Montgomery and will be led by the agency’s expert reference archivists.
Saturday, June 22, 9:00am - 12:00pm CTGenealogy 101: Breaking Ground This workshop is perfect for those just beginning to research their family history. It will feature step-by-step instruction followed by hands-on research in the ADAH’s EBSCO Research Room. Participants will gain a solid foundation to craft an effective research plan and valuable skills to navigate the wide variety of genealogical resources available at the Alabama Archives and online. Registration closes at 12:00pm CT the Friday before the workshop.
Saturday, July 27, 9:00am - 12:00pm CTAfrican American Genealogy: Finding Your StoryThis workshop will equip participants to effectively navigate potential research roadblocks and address challenges specific to African American genealogical research. Following the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and share personal experiences in an open discussion with instructors and other researchers. This workshop is suited for all levels of research experience. Registration closes at 12:00pm CT the Friday before the workshop.
