Julian D. Butler, Vice Chair
5th Congressional District
In private practice since 1966, Julian D. Butler is a partner in the law firm of Sirote & Permutt. He served as attorney for Madison County for 35 years and was an assistant to U.S. Sen.
Lister Hill and Cong. Carl Elliott. Butler has also served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama.
Butler joined the ADAH Board of Trustees in 2007 and was elected Vice Chair in 2023. He is a Fellow of the Alabama Law Foundation and helped establish the Center for Public
Law and Service at the University of Alabama and the Environmental Law Section of the Alabama State Bar. His volunteer service includes the boards of Alabama Citizens for
Constitutional Reform, Alabama Humanities Alliance, the General Joe Wheeler Home Foundation, the University of Alabama Library, and the Eleventh Circuit Historical Society.
Butler received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Alabama, where he was president of the student body. He is a 1995-96 graduate of Leadership Alabama
and has been inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor.
