THE BATTLE OF FORT BLAKELEY: MOBILE’S LAST STAND
PRESENTED BY MIKE BUNN
Montgomery, AL (04/15/2024) – The Alabama Department of Archives & History (ADAH) will continue its 2024 Food for Thought lunchtime lecture series on Thursday, April 18th, at 12 p.m. CT.
Mike Bunn will present
The Battle of Fort Blakeley: Mobile’s Last Stand. The program will be held in the ADAH’s Joseph M. Farley Alabama Power Auditorium in Montgomery. It will also be livestreamed on the
ADAH’s Facebook page and
YouTube channel. Admission is FREE.
Historian and author Mike Bunn will discuss the story of the Battle of Fort Blakeley in April of 1865, one of the final battles of the Civil War. Using research from his book The Assault on Fort Blakeley: “The Thunder & Lightning of Battle,” Bunn will present firsthand accounts to describe the scale and chaos of the weeks-long campaign to capture Mobile, the last major Southern city to remain in Confederate hands.
Bunn serves as Director of Historic Blakeley State Park in Spanish Fort, Alabama. He is author or co-author of several books, including Fort Stoddert: American Sentinel on the Mobile River, 1799-1814; Fourteenth Colony: The Forgotten Story of the Gulf South During America’s Revolutionary Era and The Assault on Fort Blakeley: “The Thunder and Lightning of Battle.” Bunn is chair of the Baldwin County Historic Development Commission, treasurer of the Friends of Old Mobile, a member of the Board of Advisors for the University of South Alabama’s Hospitality and Tourism Management program, and editor of Muscogiana, the journal of the Muscogee County (GA) Genealogical Society.
